Here is
a close up view of the distinctive pattern in which all
our traditional Guernsey Sweaters are knitted. The design
is both practical and historic and has been handed down
from generation to generation. The Guernsey originated as
a fisherman's working garment and has a story to tell. It
is said that the rib at the top of the sleeve represents
a sailing ship's rope ladder in the rigging, the raised
seam across the shoulder a rope and the garter stitch panel,
waves breaking upon the sea shore. Moreover, the diamond
gussets at the neck and under the arms, are for ease of
movement, as are the splits at the sides of the hem. When
you buy one of our Guernseys, you do indeed get a piece
of history you can wear!
